This book was released on 2016-09-14 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mr Parham is a traditional academic disappointed with the social trends of his time. Sir Bussy Woodcock is an intelligent but unrefined self-made millionaire. The pair happen to meet one day and form an unlikely relationship; Sir Bussy interested to learn something of culture and Mr Parham looking for funding for a high-quality periodical. "The Autocracy of Mr. Parham - His Remarkable Adventures in This Changing World" is a novel written by H. G. Wells and first published in 1930. Herbert George Wells (1866 - 1946) was a prolific English writer who wrote in a variety of genres, including the novel, politics, history, and social commentary. Today, he is perhaps best remembered for his contributions to the science fiction genre thanks to such novels as "The Time Machine" (1895), "The Invisible Man" (1897), and "The War of the Worlds" (1898). Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this book now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author.

Instead, she finds herself in a strange and hostile world of hosepipe standoffs and arcane rules and regulations. She finds her mud-caked wellingtoned feet and successfully navigates her way through allotment-keeping, battling biblical-scale pest invasions, learning the dark arts of the competitive vegetable grower and practising ninja-like disappearing acts to avoid yet another free cucumber from a neighbouring gardener. Witty, well-observed and with mouth watering recipes, this book is for anyone who dreams of a slice of the good life.

Download Free Américanas, Autocracy, and Autobiographical Innovation PDF by Lisa Ortiz-Vilarelle Full Book and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-03 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Overwriting the Dictator is literary study of life writing and dictatorship in Americas. Its focus is women who have attempted to rewrite, or overwrite, discourses of womanhood and nationalism in the dictatorships of their nations of origin. The project covers five 20th century autocratic governments: the totalitarianism of Rafael Trujillo’s regime in the Dominican Republic, the dynasty of the Somoza family in Nicaragua, the charismatic, yet polemical impact of Juan and Eva Perón on the proletariat of Argentina, the controversial rule of Fidel Castro following Cuba’s 1959 revolution, and Augusto Pinochet’s coup d'état that transformed Chile into a police state. Each chapter traces emerging patterns of experimentation with autobiographical form and determines how specific autocratic methods of control suppress certain methods of self-representation and enable others. The book foregrounds ways in which women’s self-representation produces a counter-narrative that critiques and undermines dictatorial power with the depiction of women as self-aware, resisting subjects engaged in repositioning their gendered narratives of national identity.

This book was released on 2016-09-16 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within a framework of analysis and background by the four editors, this book presents a view from the grassroots of the 1989 student and mass movement in China and its tragic consequences. Here are the core eyewitness and participant accounts expressed through wall posters, students speeches, movement declarations, handbills, and other documents. In their introductions to the material, the editors address the political economy of the democracy movement, the evolving concept of democracy during the movement, the movement's contribution to China becoming a civil society, and the changing view of the Chinese Communist Party by students, intellectuals, workers and others, as the crisis unfolded.
